As you prepare for all the exams, whether you wish to join the Symbiosis Law School or the Symbiosis Mass Communication Institute, you will have to appear for the entrance test.

 

Three types of tests are there:

 

SET general - Candidates interested in pursuing B.B.A/B.C.A/B.B.A (Information Technology)/B.A. (Mass Communication)/B.Sc. (Economics) Hons./B.A. (Liberal Arts) Hons./B.Sc. (Liberal Arts)/B.Sc. (Physical Sciences)/B.Sc. (Physical Sciences)/B.Sc. (Physical (Applied Statistics and Data Science) Hons students enrolled in Symbiosis International (Deemed University) institutes must take a common, mandatory computer-based test.

 

SLAT - Candidates interested in enrolling in the B.A. LL.B. (Hons) /B.B.A LL.B. (Hons) offered by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) must take the common, required Computer Based Test (CBT).

 

SITEEE - Candidates interested in enrolling in B.Tech programmes provided by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) institutes must take a common, required Computer Based Test (CBT). SET - Engineering has been known as the SIT Engineering Entrance Exam since 2018. (SITEEE).

The Symbiosis Entrance Test, generally known as SET is a test conducted for the students before they apply for admission to any of the Symbiosis Institutes. The test acts as a gateway for the students who wish to apply to the Symbiosis institutes for various courses. The courses vary from management, economics, mass communication, law, engineering, etc.

 

You must be up to date with all the test related dates and exam pattern to avail a seat for yourself in Symbiosis Institutes. The test is mandatory, and without passing the entrance test, you won't be able to go ahead with pursuing the course of your choice in any of the Symbiosis Institutes.

 

 

First things first - The registration process

 

You have a different SET for the courses you avail. For example, there is SET - law that is known as the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT), while SET- engineering is known as Symbiosis Engineering Entrance Exam (SITEEE), and the general SET as SET.

Every test is registered in the same portal.

●      Visit the official website of SET and register yourself before the 4th of June.

●      You can register for two SET for the same date. For example, one SET- law in the morning and the other SET- engineering in the afternoon.

●      You must upload the latest passport-size photograph not more than three months old.

●      The payment mode accepted for registration is through the bill desk gateway, demand draft, and an Indian bank gateway.

The difference in Symbiosis entrance exams

Symbiosis University offers multiple entrance exams that open the gateway to even more knowledge paths. SET as they are known, have four major categories which provide access to Symbiosis undergraduate courses. These exams or tests have been categorised according to the field that they generally represent.

 

SET or Symbiosis Entrance Test has 4 major divisions; SET (General), SET Law (SLAT), SET Engineering (SIT EEE) and NON-SET. The last one as you might have guessed is categorised to list out institutes and courses that don't require the entrance examination.

 

SET General is the gateway for non-technical fields of education. There are 4 sections to prepare for under SET General, General English (20 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (20 marks), General Awareness (20 marks) and Analytical & Logical Reasoning (15 marks) for a total of 75 marks. There's an additional Written Ability Test (WAT) that you must prepare for.

 

SET Law or SLAT entrance exam is for acquiring admission in any of Symbiosis Law Schools. The exam consists of 5 topics, Logical Reasoning, Legal Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension and General Knowledge, each worth 15 marks. You will also have to prepare for the Written Ability Test or WAT.

 

SET Engineering or SIT EEE will be for 140 marks with three subjects that you will have to prepare for; Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Physics and Chemistry will have 17 questions each while Mathematics has a total of 36 questions.

 

NON-SET category is for the institutes and the education fields like B Sc Nursing, Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts and Photography) and Bachelor of Design (B.Des.). These courses and institutes provide direct admission to students with eligible education level and competitive marks obtained in them.

 

All of the exams will be timed for 105 minutes with no negative marking. The most important thing to remember is that the final date for registration is the 4th of July 2021. You should mark that date on your calendars.

 

All of the exams are conducted by Symbiosis International (Deemed University), an accredited and recognized institute by the University Grants Commission, India. Students appearing and clearing the entrance exams will be eligible for courses and institutes that fall under the SIU thus setting the tone for their future.

 

SET exams are generally for technical and commercial fields. There will be no design entrance exam that would encourage passionate art students to find a career in that field. For the rest, the exam is as necessary as the admission opportunity in Symbiosis. So, prepare well and good luck!

What to do after 12th? Get SET go?

 

In modern days mainstream careers like engineering and medical are not the only career opportunities available to undergraduate students. But there are plenty of career opportunities available in almost any stream of study like Science (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology), Arts, Management, Law, Architecture which offer bright career and job opportunities. However, irrespective of the stream(s) students always need to clear entrance examinations which are at college or university level like Symbiosis admission, NID or The National Institute of Design conducts Design Aptitude Test, Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), LSAT or Law School Admission Test (LSAT) or TISS Bachelor Admission Test ( national level) Entrance Exam for admission in BA etcetera.

 

Entrance Exams for Engineering

 

Different colleges conduct various types of entrance examinations like JEE, BITSAT, SRMJEEE, COMEDK, VITEEE, Symbiosis engineering entrance test (SET) etcetera. In fact in the country for engineering stream, there are more than fifty different types of engineering entrance exams conducted at the national, state level as well as specific college and university level. Hence students can opt to appear in more than one examination to maximise their selection chances in the days of cut-throat competition.

 

Commerce UGs Entrance Exams 

 

The commerce students need to clear exams like SAT, CLAT, ACLAT, CUSAT, NCHMCT etcetera. For a career in other professions like CA, CWA, CS etc there are tests like Common Proficiency Test (CPT) for Chartered Accountancy, ICWAI entrance examination for cost account or the test for Company Secretary.

 

Arts UGs Entrance Exams 

 

Students from Arts stream have like NCHMCT JEE, NIFT, SAT, CLAT and more as entrance examinations.

 

Marine/Defence examinations

 

There is an NDA or all India level entrance exam for joining the defence sector and after qualifying the selected students to join Navy, Air Force or Army. Whereas the Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test is for the aspirants desiring to get a Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS).

 Indian Navy also offers Btech Course, tests for Indian Navy Sailors Recruitment, Indian Army Technical Entry Scheme (TES) etcetera.

  

Biology Students entrance examinations

 

Examinations like NEET, AIPMT, AIIMS MBBS are for the students who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
