Design Students who made a mark in Fashion Designing

Vibrant colours, intrinsic shapes, and an assortment of textures of fabrics are what come to mind when you think of the word ‘fashion’. But, it is so much more than just that! It is the amalgamation of one's ideas, opinions, behaviour, culture and individual philosophy which is represented skilfully in the garments they design. This means that every fashion designer is making a mark of their own, by bringing to the world some of the most original forms of human expressions. So, we bring to you a list of some of the most successful fashion designers to boost the motivation of all the aspiring designers who are preparing for undergraduate admissions in design this year.
Bibhu Mohapatra
After completing his degree in fashion, worked for Gilles Mendel, who is the CEO of the iconic furrier J. Mendel. This is seen as a great achievement for an Indian designer in America. He maintained his position at the label as a Design Director for 9 years. Proving his talents and great skills in the art of fashion at the label, he then moved to designing custom cocktails dresses, couture evening gowns, for his own clients in the city of New York. His clients also included the former First Lady of United States of America, Michelle Obama. Such huge feats have thus etched his name in the industry.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee
Sabyasachi is a name that almost all aspiring designers have heard and he definitely deserves this fame. Coming from a middle-class Bengali household, Mukherjee wanted to strive to be in the fashion industry. So, he got his fashion degree and within 4 months, launched his own namesake label. His ideology about fashion - ‘clothes should just be an extension of one's intellect’, shines throughout his work; his label which started with three people, now designs garments for some of the biggest names of Bollywood like Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, etc. He also designed the wedding attire for Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s wedding!
Manish Arora
One of the most celebrated and inspiring fashion designers of India, Manish Arora has made a name for himself after rigorous hard-work and years of toil. His trademark palette of pink and gold is something everyone knows him for in India and internationally. He began his career after graduating with a fashion degree in 1994, and he from then, designed clothes for stars such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, MIA and Katy Perry!
These were three of the most inspiring names in the Indian fashion industry that we thought you should know about. We hope they give you the required motivation for preparing for your UG Entrance exam in design, that is SEED and have a great career ahead!

Changing the Indian Landscape through Law

There are a very few figures in the history of our culturally, linguistically and ethnically diverse nation that have been able to change the course of history of our country. Many of them have been gifted to us by the field of law, including Mahatma Gandhi himself. In times of political and economic upheavals, it is evident that alongside law-makers, lawyers, jurists and other law professionals have great power to influence the future of a democracy as ours. There are plenty of powerful legal personalities that encourage the youth of today to become lawyers themselves. As the SET exam 2018 Maharashtra, comes closer and budding lawyers prepare their way to success, we bring to you three such personalities who have inspired generations of lawyers and continue doing so!
Ram Jethmalani
His name alone brings a vibe of inspiration for aspiring lawyers. Jethmalani, who graduated with an LLB at the tender age of 18, has been in the field since decades and progressed on to major political positions too. He came into public attention through a criminal case K. M. Nanavati vs. State of Maharashtra. This is the case that the popular film Rustom was a fictionalised account of. He went on to become the Minister of Law and Justice and is now a member of Rajya Sabha.
Soli Sorabjee
Sorabjee studied law at the Government Law College and is known for his defence of freedom of expression and the protection of human rights. He climbed the success ladder and went on to become a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India. Then, he held the position of Solicitor General of India from 1977 to 1980 and now holds a number of positions of national and international repute.
Fali Nariman

Top 5 Tips And Tricks To Help You Prepare For SET Entrance Exams

As the SET exams inches closer, students are to be found buried, trying to mug up as much as possible. But, this doesn’t ensure that they are using the right method to get the result they want. Better effectiveness and efficiency during studying is a smarter approach to prepare for any entrance examination. There are certain basic essentials like: practising past papers, setting a schedule for when to do what, setting deadlines, and then there are the tricks that are not much talked about or are easily forgotten about. In this article we will talk about 5 such essentials, which students tend to forget at the time of revision. These tips will be your friend during your preparation for SET exam 2018.
  1. Set a routine of eating healthy
Certainly, eating healthy and maintaining a proper, balanced diet is one of the most important practices students should adopt while preparing for an exam. Taking this step further often includes having ‘brain food’ as a part of that healthy and well-proportioned diet. These foods would specifically help in improving your memory, critical thinking and overall brain functioning. They include the likes of leafy greens, eggs, oily fish (for proteins and omega 3), peanut butter, green tea, fruits and nuts.
  1. Include exercise in your daily routine
No this doesn’t mean going to the gym for 3 hours a day! Instead, including a 5 minute stretching session during your breaks is a lot more helpful than just sipping a cup of coffee or tea. Small interval exercises doesn’t drain you much and also helps you boost your brain power. It increases the flow of blood, oxygen and nutrients to our brain
  1. Use power naps to your advantage
Taking a thirty minute power nap not only energises but also rejuvenates you. This is often ignored by students as they tend to focus on toiling for long hours of study. But, it is always better do allocate time for a power nap as this helps you with your memory too.
  1. Answer strategically
Time is Precious! Begin with the easiest section. That way you solve more number of questions in the limited time. The questions which were not answered could be attempted in the end when you have time left. And remember the rule of elimination. As this is a multiple choice answers based test and does not have negative marking, we would highly recommend this tactic. You can have your own personal tricks too!
  1. Use diagrams
To study for SET, one of the most recommended techniques to learn and keep your memory strong and shortening the long information is using visuals to segregate and absorb the data throughout the learning process. This means, using diagrams, clue cards, charts or even doodles that help you understand and remember concepts better would help.
We hope this article helps you for your preparation for SET 2018 and Symbiosis admission process. Good Luck!

Practice past papers
This may well be a clichéd tip, it is there for a reason. It is time and again advised because of its importance, indeed. Solving past papers not only gives you an idea of your own speed, but also about the structure and the most important points you can score on. So boost your health and make sure you get your daily dose of proteins, vitamins, calcium and all other nutrients you need for a healthy state of mind and body.
Brush up on the syllabus and structure
Your preparation would be insufficient if you know all the answers but not the structure of the test. You should know exactly how much time is to be spent on what question and when to move ahead. This is only possible if you are well versed with the entire structure of the set exam and know the weightage of each section.
Visit the exam center before the exam
Does this sound weird!?Well trust me it is not. It helps you a lot! That abundant stress that you have, before and during the set exam, gets pacified to a great extent. Doing this helps you in familiarizing with the space, vibe and overall ambiance of the examination center also and hence, makes your examination day a lot smoother, stress-free and overall less intimidating.
